The first thing you see when you get home is affecting your mood

I'm going to be blunt with you…

Most people come home and the first thing they see is a mess in the entryway: shoes scattered about, bags, keys, clothes, papers… and their spirits immediately drop.

That's not just "mess." That's stress from the very first second.

I see this all the time. People worry about the sofa, the paintings, and making the living room look nice… but the entryway—which is the first thing that greets you—is a total mess. And then they wonder why they don’t really feel at home.

What's really going on?

When you open the door and the first thing you see is a mess, your mind immediately goes into problem-solving mode. Even if you don't say it out loud, you came home tired and weighed down by your worries.

And that carries over into the rest of the day.

What You Can Do This Week (Without Spending Almost Anything)

  1. Get rid of everything that doesn't belong there —shoes you don't wear every day, bags, things "just in case"... out they go. Even if it's just temporarily.
  2. Keep only the essentials. A place for your keys, a place for the shoes you're wearing today—and that's it. Nothing else.
  3. Put out just one thing you like. It could be a little plant, a small painting, or a simple lamp. Something that makes you feel a little better when you open the door.

It doesn't have to look like something out of a magazine. It just has to feel lighter.

The Truth

You don't need to remodel the whole house to feel better. Sometimes you just need the entryway to stop getting to you as soon as you walk in.

Start there. This week. Even if it's just with what you already have.

And then let me know how it went.
